It is comprised of twelve self-contained episodes that tie into an overarching narrative. The Animated Series was also confirmed as cannon in the most recent game release, Devil May Cry 5. Opening Song: D.M.C. Fire Emblem: Three Houses Review: Romance of the Three Kingdoms

Image
Fódlan is a continent divided by three rival nations, with the Garreg Mach Monastery (an influential power in its own right) at its center. The Church of Seiros based at the monastery helps to maintain peace between the three houses by serving as an Officer's school for students from each nation. Byleth, a mercenary by trade, becomes the newest professor at the Officers Academy for one of the three houses. The house chosen by the player will determine the roster of students and the course of story events, to the point whole character threads are ignored or dropped entirely. In this way at least one play-through of each house is encouraged because each contains a small piece of the larger picture, offering new insight into key plot points. There are also four different endings (one for each route) to the same conflict, though, there is no cannon "true ending". For those only planning to do one house, here is a spoiler-free dossier of each: The Blue Lion path is character...

Music to Level Up Your Day: Dark Souls II

I don't know much about musical theory, nor am I a musically inclined person. However, I do love to listen to video game soundtracks. Who doesn't? They can be a powerful listening experience in their own right, or be as evocative as the scores composed for film. Each of these posts will feature music tracks from a single game title, or series/franchise in some rare cases. Composer: Motoi Sakuraba and Yuka Kitamura North American Release Date: March 2014 Taking place in the kingdom of Drangleic, the game follows the Bearer of the Curse, a zombie-like being with no memories or purpose. Panzer Dragoon OVA: Don't Make Me Blue

Image
Panzer Dragoon is a 1996 direct-to-video Japanese animated film (OVA) based on the video game Panzer Dragoon. It was originally released on VHS and LaserDisc despite being only 26-minutes in length, and was made available to stream on the Bandai Channel in the 2000s but only in Japan. If you're willing to sacrifice a few minutes of your life that you'll never get back, the Panzer Dragoon OVA is also available (unofficially) through YouTube. Normally I wouldn't advocate for this sort of thing but given the limited release and obscurity it may be the only way to view the film without locating an old VHS copy. Opening Song: N/A Credits Song: Sora no kiseki (空の奇蹟) (by Yuri Shiratori / 白鳥由里) Spoiler Warning: I am going to give a synopsis and my opinions at the very end.

Each of these posts will feature music tracks from a single game title, or series/franchise in some rare cases. Composer: Motoi Sakuraba North American Release Date: September 2011 Dragons ruled the world during the "Age of Ancients", until three of Four Lords: Gwyn (Lord of Sunlight), Nito (First of the Dead), and the Witch of Izalith used their power to destroy the dragons and take control over the world. Meanwhile the Furtive Pygmy was forgotten, thus beginning the "Age of Fire." Humanity, having been created from the Furtive Pygmy's Dark Soul, is left afflicted with an undead curse, perpetually resurrecting after death until they eventually lose their minds in a process referred to as ...

Dragon Quest XI Review: Déjà Vu

Image
A child is born with a symbol on his hand marking him as the "Luminary", a legendary hero chosen by the world tree Yggdrasil to save the land of Erdrea from evil. As soon as the Luminary comes of age he leaves his home to meet with the king of Heliodor, who had arranged to train him. Upon arriving at he castle the king accuses the Luminary of being a herald of evil because an entity known only as the the "Dark One" only ever appears when a Luminary does. The Luminary is thrown in Heliodor's dungeon but escapes to follow his destiny.   The narrative is presented in a three arc format that is easy to follow, with the first half following a pretty standard routine of visiting X town and completing a sub-story there. It's not particularly exciting and usually involves something along the lines of running a horse race, fighting in an arena, or solving a local disappearance before moving on to the next town. The second arc starts off with a mini solo-adventure f...
