This is an annual list of my personal disappointing games of the year. To clarify, these are not the "worst" games of the year. They are titles I was let-down by based on my own preferences and expectations. Most of the titles on this list are not even what I would consider to be bad games. They just weren't for me, or were not what I was expecting. All the games on this list are the launch version or later, and I have either played them to completion or abandoned them. The list is ordered based on my overall enjoyment (one being the best) of games I played in 2025. Most of the games listed here will not be brand new 2025 releases. They are games I played in 2025 that were new to me.

Monster Hunter is one of my favorite video game franchises. The biological creativity is restrained, which lends an air of legitimacy and plausibility to their existence. To keep things simple I will only be using the standard monster versions, no variants or sub-species.   #5: Astalos A spikey wyvern with insect-like wings that hails from any area with heavy vegetation. It can paralyze prey using currents of electricity and reacts aggressively towards any man or beast that enters its territory. #4: Legiana A slim and highly agile bird-like wyvern from the coral highlands, Legiana uses ice to slow its opponents. They are fast and intensely territorial towards anyone invading their airspace. #3: Mizutsune Mizu's flowery design was crafted with beauty in mind. This water-based monster can spray a jet of water from its mouth or produce bubbles that both speed movement and hinder movement when stacked. #2: Barroth This brute from the desert is the complete opposite of Mizu...

Between the rising cost of video games, industry scandals, and the deceasing quality and originality of triple A releases, I opted not to buy very many new games this year; instead I replayed a few old favorites. I also got back into some of my other hobbies, namely miniature painting, which took up a good deal of my free time. To clarify, these are not the "best and worst" games of the year. Approximately 176 creatures populate the world of Ark, and while most are based on real-world dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures, mythical creatures such as the wyverns and shadowmanes have been added with increasing frequency. With so many real and fictional beasts for the player to tame and ride, I've decided to do a top 10 creatures that I think make the best utility animals. For instances where multiple animals fulfill the same task, but may be easier or more difficult to tame based on the player's level, I cheated a tiny bit and listed both animals in order from easiest to hardest. All creatures on this list are from the base game and the free DLC maps: The Island, The Center, Ragnarok, Valguero, and Crystal Isles. 

Subnautica is a game series full of alien wildlife inspired by real world animals. For this list I tried to avoid some of the more obvious ones like Ventgardens being based on jellyfish or Crimson Rays being rays.
