Music to Level Up Your Day: Undertale

I don't know much about musical theory, nor am I a musically inclined person. However, I do love to listen to video game soundtracks. Who doesn't? They can be a powerful listening experience in their own right, or be as evocative as the scores composed for film. Each of these posts will feature music tracks from a single game title, or series/franchise in some rare cases.

Composer: Toby Fox
North American Release Date: September 2015

A child tumbles into an underground kingdom full of monsters and fights or befriends them over the course of their journey to reach the surface.

Toby Fox is a self-taught musician and composed most of the tracks with little iteration; the exception being the game's main theme, "Undertale". The music was composed before programming because it helped "decide how the scene should go". Various leitmotifs are used in many of the tracks, in particular, "Hopes and Dreams" (final boss theme) brings back most of the main character themes.

Metal Crusher | (Character Theme)

Spider Dance | (Boss Theme)

Hopes and Dreams | (Boss Theme)

Battle Against a True Hero | (Boss Theme)

Megalovania | ("Boss Theme)

Undertale | (Ending Theme)

"I'm not ready for this to end. I'm not ready for you to leave. I'm not ready to say goodbye to someone like you again..." - Asriel Dreemurr
