Music to Level Up Your Day: Cyberpunk 2077 (Part 1)

I don't know much about musical theory, nor am I a musically inclined person. However, I do love to listen to video game soundtracks. They can be a powerful listening experiences in their own right, or be as evocative as the scores composed for film. Each of these posts will feature a sampling of music tracks from a single game title, or series/franchise in some rare cases. A complete list of these can be found on the Video Game Music page.

A freelance mercenary known as "V" (Vincent / Valerie) operates within the independent megacity and city-state known as "Night City". They are reluctantly imbued with a cybernetic "bio-chip" during a job that contains a digital version of the legendary rockstar and terrorist, Johnny Silverhand. The two are forced to work together when Johnny's consciousness begins to overwrite V's own. To survive they need to find a way to separate - something that could kill one or both of them.

Multiple licensed music artists contributed to Night City's fictional radio stations, with the real-life band Refused providing music for the fictitious band, Samurai. The songs vary widely in style but all touch on Night City's socioeconomic situation, violence, rebellion, death and suicide.

While the game was set in medieval Europe, the film is set in the modern day United States. Filming was done in New York State's Hudson Valley, near the town of Woodstock. The historic Fleischmanns Yeast family estate served as the Beaverfield Inn. Due to the movie's meager budget, they were not able to afford the license to the U.S. Postal Service's logo. Fire Emblem Engage Review: Popstars Save The World

I am still very new to Fire Emblem; Three Houses was my first foray into the franchise and initially I wasn't interested in Engage at all. The gameplay in the trailers looked fun, but there didn't seem to be a storyline and the new art style was too ostentatious for my taste. First impressions are often wrong though, and after watching some YouTubers playing Engage, I decided to pick up a copy as an impulse buy. Gameplay: One thing Engage does really well over Three Houses is balancing the various units and encouraging diversity on the team. Armored units have better movement for example, while magic users are good for support. The various infantry units each have unique traits and roles now, such as halbediers having guaranteed follow-ups while heroes give the party damage boosts. The weapon triangle from past titles makes a return: sword > Axe > Lance > sword; Martial arts beats thief, mage, and archer. The triangle further discourages class homogeneity...

Top Best / Worst Games of 2024

This is an annual list of my personal best and worst games of the year. To clarify, these are not literally the "best and worst" games of the year. They are titles I enjoyed or was let-down by based on my own preferences and expectations. Most of the "disappointing" titles are not even what I would consider bad games. They just weren't for me or were not what I was expecting. All the games on this list I have either played to completion or abandoned. I have ordered the list based on my overall enjoyment (one being the best) of games I played in 2024. Most of the games listed here will not be brand new 2024 releases. They are games I played in 2024 that were new to me.
